IWMI joins the 2009 International Coastal Clean Up

Another activity entailed another success for Mother Earth as Integrated Waste Management, Inc. participated in the International Coastal Clean Up on September 19, 2009 held at the shoreline near the Manila-Cavite Expressway locally known as Coastal Road.

This annual event where an estimation of 400,000 people around the globe simultaneously grab on their brooms and clean the beaches is an advocacy that helps preserve the ecosystem by encouraging people to clean the trash and debris that affects the waterways.

The number of volunteers keeps on growing every year, an indication that more and more people are getting aware and involved in environmental activities.

IWMI, one of the leading supporters of this activity was also present in last year’s clean up. The Philippines placed second in the 2008 coastal clean-up by mobilizing 37,728 volunteers who cleaned up a total of 317.9 miles of land and underwater areas and collected 621,942.4 pounds of marine debris.
